BIOGRAPHY
This is a subtitle
I was raised by a single mother
who told me that girls could do anything IF they put their
minds to it.

|
Her statement rang like a bell
in my head one day when a guy in my Grade 7 class
told me that kickboxing was “just a guy’s
sport”. |
A simple statement was the only push I
needed to prove him wrong. So being as stubborn as I
am and that I wouldn’t let anyone tell me what
I could and couldn’t do, I became actively involved
in kickboxing and karate for the next two years.
My world of physical activity opened wider
than I had ever expected. I began noticing fitness magazines
and started taking a much closer look at muscle magazines.
That’s where I discovered that women were competing
as intensely as men and I knew then that I had set a
new goal for myself. I joined a gym, fell in love with
weight training and the rest is history. |

1st competition: 2003
New Brunswick Bodybuilding Championships
I placed 2nd at this show. Placing second
only drove me harder for the next competition the following
year.
2nd competition: 2004 New Brunswick Bodybuilding Championships
One year later and with a new trainer –
Bruce Sweeney of SIMPLY FOR LIFE, I went on to win the Women’s
Heavyweight and Overall title. For someone as shy as I am
– stepping on stage the very first time should have
been intimidating. What a rush when I realized that I was
in my element and I am 100% comfortable! I know how hard
I work and I want everyone to see what I have accomplished.
Nothing can beat the feeling that I get from hearing people
screaming my name and hearing all the cheering of the audience
from people who support my efforts. Knowing how many people
have come to see me or are seeing me for the very first
time is pretty awesome. – Nothing I think beats that
feeling!
After this competition I took some time off to focus on
getting my physique in better condition and to put on some
more muscle mass. The goal is to improve each time –
and that means fine-tuning my priorities. Each time I compete
is an experience and with each experience comes an opportunity
to grow, not only as a bodybuilder but as an individual.
3rd competition: 2007 Nova Scotia Bodybuilding Championships
I did a 19-week diet for this show, which
paid off big time for me. I put on a good 10lbs of muscle
and won the Women’s Heavyweight and Overall titles
as this show too. I was a little more nervous for this one
because it was a new province, and I didn’t know anyone.
But, I went for a reason, and that was to take two trophies
home with me, and that is exactly what I did.
4th competition: 2007 Atlantic Classic Bodybuilding Championships
This show was held one week after the NS
show. That week in between was probably the most difficult
week, having to carb deplete and carb load two weeks in
a row is tough on the body. But once again I got what I
set out to do, to prove that I WAS THE BEST in Atlantic
Canada. I won the Women’s division for my second consecutive
competition.
I started to educate myself on the science of this sport and
have been involved in it now for the last 10 years. My inspirations
are my trainers Bruce Sweeney and Mike Griffin of SIMPLY FOR
LIFE, my mom and dad who taught me never to give up on what
I want, and my best Friend Anna who always kept me on the
right track.
My determination continues -- my next goal is to be the Canadian
Champion and I hope to see you and get your support in 2008.
